Fifth Mediterranean Forest Week (5th MFW)

  • March 09, 2017
  • Agadir (Morocco)

The purpose of the Fifth Mediterranean Forest Week (5th MFW) is an approach to restoration, which requires coordination between sectors intended to promote productive multifunctional territories with an optimal equilibrium negotiated with local actors in terms of supply of economic, social and environmental benefits. This vision of forest and landscape restoration, now widely recognized at the international level, is at the crossroad of the three Rio conventions and will also contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The central question of this 5th MFW will be: how efforts on the restoration of Mediterranean forests and landscapes can contribute to achieve the overall objectives on these issues? Such as the Bonn Challenge, Aichi Target 15 of the CBD, the objective of the UNCCD neutrality in terms of land degradation, the Paris Agreement on the climate, and the decisions taken at the CoP of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Marrakech (2016) and SDG n°15.
